Football Thrives in St. Ives. St. Ives Town F.C, Westwood Road.

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

We are still in lockdown. Is it week 4 or 5? Im not even entirely sure what day it is half the time under this regime. Ive stayed very local for my latest painting. I cycled into town one sunny afternoon last week and took plenty of photos of the Westwood Road ground while the groundsman was doing a sterling job strimming some undergrowth.

My nephew plays for a junior St.Ives Town F.C team but I've not seen a senior match at Westwood Road for a while now. There have been quite a few changes/upgrades in recent times. The club now boasts a turnstile inside a garden shed, a retractable players tunnel, new hardcore in the car park and a fleet of Portakabins that in numerical terms could give a National League ground a run for its money.

For this painting I had to avoid the blasted portakabins and focused on the mighty Main Stand. St. Ives Town F.C play in the Southern League (Premier Division Central. Unfortunately the season has been abandoned so I'm sure the club will need some additional local support (financial and otherwise) more than ever next season. I shall definitely pop down for a match or 2.

Continue to stay safe!
